Tyre Pressures
Should we be checking tyre pressures ?
It is important to check tyre your pressures at least once a month, prior to extended journeys and when a vehicle’s weight increases or decreases. Keeping to correct tyre pressures will increase the lifespan of your tyres and more importanly improves road safety.
Under inflated tyres
Will make it harder to steer round corners, tyres are likely to overheat, which will increase the chances of a blowout and risk a higher chance of an accident.
Under inflated tyres will also cause wear on the outside edges and they also affect braking and fuel consumption, simple checks will keep you safe, but also save you money.
Over inflated tyres
Over inflated tyres can make the sidewalls and tread to become harder, reduceing traction and an harsh ride. Over inflated tyres can heighten risk of a blowout and a highr chance of being involved in a tyre related accident.
It will also cause wear to the centre of the tyre, reducing traction will put more pressure in the centre of the tyre. The decrease in contact will affect braking performance and fuel consumption. Just by checking your tyres once a month will keep you safe and also save you money.
What pressure should my tyres be?
The vehicle manufacturers willl determine correct pressures for each make and model. Tyre pressures are measured in PSI “pounds per square inch”. Our car dealership
